Talkeetna
Took a little side trip - 15 miles off of the highway to visit the small town of Talkeetna - mostly full of gift shops and restaurants. If the clouds don't hide Mt McKinley, it is supposed to give you a spectacular view of the mountain. Of course it was covered by clouds

Alaska Rail
Of course the town of Talkeetna is on the Alaska Rail Road line (as well as a stop for the tour busses)

Rocky and Bullwinkle
On the way out of Talkeetna we saw a restaurant named the "Flying Squirrel". Of course our thoughts immediately went to Rocky the Flying Squirrel and also maybe Bullwinkle would be there. No such luck, but the food was good.

Our Cousin Alex
Similiar to Nancy and Joe - Alex ran away from home at an early age. Of course she ended up in Alaska and is a social worker working in Wasilla. She offered to knock on Sara Palin's door so we could meet her (we declined), but we did find out where she lives.

Nancy's Birthday
While in Wasilla - we celebrated Nancy's birthday while the Beatles played "Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm 64?"

Nancy's Birthday
In addition to cheesecake, Nancy also got a cake and several presents from Alex. Thank you again - Alex - we had a great time at your house.

Reindeer Ranch
One of the area attractions is the Reindeer Ranch. There you can feed reindeer and see a buffalo and two moose.

Denali the Moose
Denali was rejected by his mother at birth (after being touched by a human) and has lived at the reindeer ranch ever since. He's quite the big guy and will eat out of your hand.
