Backtracking
At this point we start backtracking the Alaska Highway - 90 miles to the Canadian Border- and then on to Whitehorse. The Canadian road has permafrost damage, heaving for the first 100 miles. It makes driving similar to a roller coaster, and is constantly in the state of repair, being leveled and having gravel spread until asphalt is applied.

Yukon Territory
Once you cross the Border you are in Yukon Territory. The largest city is Whitehorse (about 25,000). It's beautiful country with lots of wildlife along the roads.

Wildlife
The first animal we saw was a moose, but it darted into the woods before we could could take a picture. The Swans were much friendlier. We saw several in the lakes along the road.

Whoa!
What do we have coming up? We're thinking Elk, but could be Caribou.

Elk
Whatever they were, it was a small herd. We rolled up slowly and got several pictures. They actually were more interested in watching us than eating the grass. Note the one in front is starting to grow his antlers.

Exit the Elks
Another car drives up and they decide they have had enough people for today. We stayed in Whitehorse tonight then will take a side trip to Skagway, Ak, tomorrow, about a 100 miles south.
