Amana, Iowa
Spent the morning in Amana Iowa. It's a small community started by the Amish, but didn't see one buggy or any people dressed in the Amish attire. Did see the Amana factory where they make appliances.

Buddy Holly
Going down I-35 we went through Clear Lake, known as the place where "the music died". On Feb 3, 1959 about 4 miles north of town the plane carrying Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper crashed. The glasses mark the spot on the road where you walk about 1/2 mile to see the crash site.

This small memorial is located at the site where the plane crashed. While we were there several other cars showed up and took the walk to the site.

Surf Ballroom
The last show preformed by Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Booper was here. They took the plane to their next engagement instead of riding the bus which had a broken heater. Unfortunately the plane had ice on its wings and crashed shortly after take off.
